Currency rule for entry and exit. Your US credit card is not going to work in Cuba. Therefore, you will have to ensure that you have enough cash for your stay. As per the Cuba rule, the travelers need to declare cash amounts over 5, 000 USD before the entry. Besides, the Cuba government will charge ten percent fee for dollar cash conversions. This rule will not be applicable to other currencies or electronic transactions. The travelers will not be allowed to export Cuban convertible pesos. They can export equivalent of the $5, 000 in any other currency except Cuban convertible pesos. More than the restricted amount will be subjected to the approval of a Cuban bank. Is there any extension period? The visa can be extended up to ninety days. The extension will be easy for most of the travelers. What you need to do is to visit immigration office and present CUC$25 in stamps with the required documents. You need to get the stamps from a branch of Banco Financiero Internacional or Bandec. With this, you will be able to stay for another 30 days. But the Canadians will be allowed to stay for additional ninety days after the original ninety days.
